REMAX and Real: Two Brokerage Models Explained

REMAX helped build generations of successful real estate careers.
I know because I spent more than 20 years building within the brand—as an agent, team leader, trainer, recruiter and brokerage owner.
Now the business is changing.
Real is acquiring RE/MAX Holdings, and the two companies are expected to operate under Real REMAX Group following closing.
The RE/MAX brand may remain, but the company behind it is entering a completely new chapter.
For agents, the question is no longer whether change is coming.
It is whether you will wait for it—or start understanding your options now.

The Traditional REMAX Model

REMAX was built around independently owned brokerages, physical offices and local leadership.
That model created:
  • Strong brand recognition
  • Local market presence
  • Independent brokerage cultures
  • Office-based training and support
  • Generations of successful agents
It has played an important role in my career, and I understand why so many agents remain loyal to it.
But the industry is moving toward technology, centralized support and new ways for agents to participate in the value they create.

The Real Model

Real was designed for that next era.
It operates as a centralized, cloud-based brokerage with one connected platform for agents, teams and leaders.
The model includes:
  • Competitive commission economics
  • Revenue-share opportunities
  • Equity programs
  • Cloud-based transaction management
  • reZEN and Leo technology
  • Training and agent collaboration
  • Opportunities to grow across markets
Real gives agents more ways to build value beyond their next commission cheque.
And those opportunities are available today.

Why This Matters Now

The acquisition brings a traditional franchise system and a cloud-based brokerage platform under one parent organization.
Exactly how the two models will work together has not been fully announced.
But REMAX agents do not need to wait for every decision to be made before learning what Real already offers.
Now is the time to compare the models, understand the economics and decide which direction best supports the business you want to build.

My Perspective

I am proud of what I built with REMAX.
I am also excited about what agents can build with Real.
This is not about abandoning everything that made REMAX successful. It is about recognizing where the business is going and positioning yourself for what comes next.
If you are a REMAX agent wondering how Real’s model works, what a move could look like or whether the timing is right, contact me directly.
I will give you a clear and honest comparison based on your career, production and goals.

Understand Your Options Before the Market Moves

You do not need to make a rushed decision.
But you should understand what is available.
