Real REMAX Group: What Is Confirmed—and What Is Still Unknown?
- By Alex Burns
The Real and RE/MAX transaction is moving closer to completion.
On August 18, new leadership changes provided a clearer picture of how Real REMAX Group will begin taking shape after the acquisition closes.
After more than 20 years with RE/MAX, I see this as an important sign that the next chapter is already beginning.
The Latest Development
RE/MAX President and Chief Growth Officer Chris Lim and Executive Vice President of Strategy Travis Saxton announced that they will not continue with Real REMAX Group.
RE/MAX Holdings CEO Erik Carlson will also step down after the transaction closes and join the new company’s board.
Real co-founder and CEO Tamir Poleg will serve as chairman and CEO of the combined organization.
These changes provide greater clarity about who will lead Real REMAX Group moving forward.
The Deal Is Almost Complete
Shareholders of both companies overwhelmingly approved the transaction on August 14.
Approximately 99% of votes cast by Real shareholders supported the deal. RE/MAX shareholders representing 78.8% of voting power also voted in favour.
The remaining conditions include a final order from the Supreme Court of British Columbia. The companies expect the transaction to close within the coming weeks.
Why This Matters for Canadian Agents
Real has said it intends to preserve both brands while finding efficiencies through technology and shared operations.
RE/MAX brings global recognition, established market presence and a powerful network.
Real brings a cloud-based platform, integrated technology, revenue share, equity opportunities and a growing agent community.
The final combined offering has not been announced, but Canadian agents can already explore what Real provides today.
My Perspective
RE/MAX has been a major part of my career and my family for more than 20 years.
I understand what agents value about the brand because I have built within it as an agent, team leader, trainer, recruiter and brokerage owner.
I am also excited about what Real’s model creates for agents who want to build beyond their next commission.
This is not about walking away from the past. It is about understanding what the next chapter could make possible.
