An announcement worth paying attention to

Every so often, something happens in real estate that makes you pay closer attention. The announcement of Open Real Estate is one of those moments. AGNT, HomeServices of America, Keller Williams and Real REMAX Group have announced an initiative to rethink how property listing information is entered and shared. These organizations compete in many areas, so their decision to work together on listing infrastructure deserves a closer look.

Why competitors would work together

The basic idea is to create a shared system that can improve the flow of listing information among participating brokerages and authorized real estate platforms. The project is being positioned to work alongside existing MLS systems, not replace them. It remains a proposed initiative, rather than a fully operational platform, so there are important implementation details still to come.

What I think agents should watch

Having spent much of my career with RE/MAX and now making my move to Real, I pay attention to anything that could affect the way agents run their businesses. This announcement is about listing information, but it also touches on a larger shift: technology, cooperation and the value brokerages provide beyond their name on the sign. We shouldn’t assume every proposal will deliver its promised benefits. We should understand the plan, ask how it will work and look closely at what it means for clients.

Why I started The Brokerage Shift

I created The Brokerage Shift to share what I’ve learned, explore what is changing and have conversations with people who see the industry from different perspectives. If you’re following this announcement and wondering what the bigger shifts might mean for your business, I invite you to get to know my story and join the conversation.
