Real vs. RE/MAX After the Deal: Which Brokerage Model Fits Which Agent?

Now that Real and RE/MAX are under the same parent company, one question is going to come up a lot:
What’s actually the difference between joining Real and joining RE/MAX?
They’re now connected, but they aren’t the same brokerage model.
And that’s important, because there isn’t one model that’s automatically right for every agent.

THE RE/MAX MODEL

RE/MAX has spent decades building one of the most recognizable brands in real estate.
For many agents, that’s still a major advantage.
The model can make sense for agents who value an established local brokerage, strong consumer recognition and the traditional Broker/Owner structure.
And with Real’s technology potentially becoming available within the RE/MAX network, the value proposition could continue to evolve.

THE REAL MODEL

Real was built differently.
It’s a cloud-based brokerage with technology at the centre of the business.
Real also offers agents ways to participate beyond their individual commissions, including revenue share and equity opportunities, subject to the company’s programs and requirements.
For agents who are building teams, recruiting or thinking beyond their next transaction, that’s worth understanding.

SO WHICH ONE IS BETTER?

I don’t think that’s the right question.
The better question is:
Which model fits the business you’re trying to build?
An established producer may look at this differently than a brand-new agent.
A team leader trying to scale has different needs than an independent agent.
And a RE/MAX Broker/Owner who has spent 20 years building a brokerage is looking at the entire conversation from another perspective.
That’s why understanding the differences matters.

THE DEAL CREATES MORE OPTIONS

This is what I find particularly interesting about Real REMAX Group.
Real and RE/MAX don’t need to become identical for this deal to work.
In fact, having two different models could be one of its strengths.
Agents can look at where they are today, where they want to go and which environment gives them the best opportunity to get there.
And as Real’s technology and infrastructure begin influencing the broader organization, those options could become even more interesting.

WHICH MODEL FITS YOU?

That’s exactly the kind of question I’m exploring through The Brokerage Shift.
I’ve built the site to help agents, teams and Broker/Owners understand the different models, the changes happening across the organization and what those changes could mean for their businesses.

Not sure which direction makes sense for you?
